Monte da Bemposta

The Alentejo coastline is one of the best surfing spots in Portugal. Depending on the time of the year, there is always available to attend surf lessons for beginners or big waves for the more experienced. Towards the North, only 13kms, and more common in the beach area of S. Torpes (a classic open beach break with a jetty on the north side) and Praia da Vieirinha (Vieirinha Beach), at these beaches, there is space to learn with smaller but powerful waves.

Towards the South, we suggest for the more experienced on a good day, Aivados beach 5km from Monte da Bemposta, is an exposed beach break that has very consistent surf and works all around the year. Offshore winds blow from the south; groundswells are more frequent than wind swells and the best swell direction is from the northwest. You can enjoy good surf at all stages of the tide. Also, Praia do Malhão (Malhão beach) is located only 8km from us, and the swell is bigger. All the beaches have a fantastic landscape where most days you can enjoy good waves.”

Peak swell: January, February, March, April, May, September, and October.

Variable swell: June, July, August, November, and December.

With Alentejo architecture and details influenced by travels worldwide, all houses have a small terrace with full or partial views of the sea. Comfort comes from the inside, after a good night's sleep, but it can also come from the outside, during a meal or a siesta outdoors.

Each house is the right size so that tranquility and privacy are guaranteed. Designed to receive families with children, but also couples or surf lovers, they feature different types, for different experiences.

Monte da Bemposta offers ten independent Mezzanine Studios with a kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom, plus a sofa bed to allow four people to stay. But those who don't need that much space can opt for one of the four standard studios with just one bedroom, kitchenette, bathroom, and terrace.

For large groups or large families, the main house may be the best solution: it has a T3, one of which is a suite, and an exterior entrance that allows for greater independence and privacy. It is also in this main building that you can find the common spaces that can be used by all Monte's guests, be it the living room or the restaurant with a terrace.

Meals

Everything in our kitchen is homemade. Dinners are prepared based on the inspiration and ingredients available on the market. What never leaves the menu is the comfort of a good soup and the affection in the preparation of dishes, from the light to the more traditional. And because the days and seasons of the year welcome us differently, meals can be served in the interior room, on the covered terrace, or by the pool overlooking the sea.

Breakfast is served daily, and during lunch and in the afternoon, snacks, toast and drinks are available by the pool.

And because we are talking about family holidays, don't wait for a fixed menu and, just like at home, feel free to ask us, “what is dinner today?”.

Activities

At Monte da Bemposta, the days can pass serenely and restfully the same or, if you prefer, always different, adding good doses of adrenaline. Upon availability and booking, there are many proposals offered free of charge by Monte.

Children will love to feed the animals that live here: alpacas, lamas, donkeys, and horses.

Bike tours are available to all guests, both on and off the hill.

To play padel there are two courts, allowing a great sporting encounter followed by the best socializing among friends, with a drink in the restaurant/bar.

Hiking along the numerous trails along the coast is always an option not to be missed.

Tours and nearby beaches

The beaches of Queimado and Ilha do Pessegueiros are just a short walk away. You can also go by bike, horse and even by cart, as we are in the countryside. This proximity makes Monte da Bemposta the ideal refuge for those who enjoy surfing and diving.

Not to mention the memorable walks on the Fisherman's Trails, one of the best coastal trails in the world. Porto Covo peeks further to the North, inviting all who enjoy Alentejo gastronomy and traditions to visit the village.
