The surf
Whether you prefer to go left or right, you’ll be happy to learn that we’ve got two of Indonesia’s funniest waves within close proximity. Walk (5 mins) to Yoyos or ride (5 mins) to Tropicals and you’ll experience some of the most consistent setups in the world.
If you’re ever to be guaranteed waves, this would have to be that place. West Sumbawa caters to surfers of all abilities: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Situated on our doorstep is Yoyos, which is a swell magnet all year round.

The lodge
Located on Yoyos Beach in beautiful Sumbawa, Indonesia. Baha Baha Villas is the quintessential island getaway, only a short jaunt from Bali and Lombok. Free WiFi, swimming pool, a restaurant and a bar, all rooms equipped with A/C and flat-screen TVs, bathtub in select rooms. Baha Baha Villas also offers free Yoga for all guests and complimentary breakfast, tea and coffee. An idyllic setting for one and for all, we'll cater to families, couples and solo travelers.
Yoga
Our yoga shala provides a peaceful and tranquil space for your yoga and meditation practice. Mats and props are provided for your convenience. We offer free Yoga to all guests. We also offer 5 (buy 4 get one free) and 10 (buy 7 and get 3 free) class passes. Classes are from Monday to Saturday, no Yoga on Sunday.
Surf
Baha Baha Villas is located in close proximity to some of Indonesia's best surfing waves, including Yoyos, Super Sucks, Tropicals, Scar Reef and more. Situated on our doorstep is Yoyos, which is a swell magnet all year round.
Swim
Home to various species of sea life, Lawar Bay, less than five minutes drive, provides some of the islands' best swimming, snorkeling and diving. Take a guide with you. Otherwise, explore the island at your own leisure.
Hike
The island of Sumbawa is the perfect place for hiking. Spend the morning or afternoon exploring the coastline or breathtaking lighthouse views, the hinterland or rejuvenating waterfall swims. Go alone or with a guide.
Golf
Ever imagined teeing off in a tropical paradise? Now you can experience the delight of playing on an immaculate 9-hole golf course during your island holiday. The course is located nearby the resort.
Dive
Our local guide knows the waters around the area extremely well, diving in these waters for the past 20 years. We'll organize all of your spearfishing needs, be it a half or full-day experience. Upon your return, our chefs will transform your catch for you into a delicious meal.
Kite
If the trade winds are up in the afternoons, why not try your hand at Kite Boarding? Get one of the most stunning perspectives of the land from the sea. Let our staff know a few days in advance and we will organize your kiteboarding experience.
Fishing
If you're a seasoned fisherman or just enjoy being out on the boat, let us organize a charter for you with our trusted local fishermen. Half-day and full-day tours are available. Let us know a day or two in advance so we can tailor a package for you and your crew.

After living and working around Berawa Bali, Sean set off to explore parts of Bali he'd not yet seen. He and a mate loaded up their bikes with the essentials - surfboards and a backpack - and with a compass and a 'mud map', they set off to discover some untouched Balinese magic.
A few days of exploring brought them to the most beautiful place they had ever seen: West Sumbawa - a happy cultural town; with a jungle full of wildlife and a magnificent coastline of perfect waves and deserted beaches. That was May 2007 and the perfect holiday ever.
In 2008 Sean wanted to recapture the magic of Sumbawa; excited to reconnect to this special place again. With a simple "Mate, I just have to show you this place," I was hooked and I set off with Dean to find this often talked-about place. A few stops started, a lot of wrong turns, and two epic ferry crossings and we made it back.
Back then, the only accommodation was a place on the beach serviced by three staff, one of them being Book. Book, in our eyes, was living the dream: spending his days simply - fishing the oceans, hunting the jungles, and enjoying life. Little did we know it then, but Book would be integral to our dream of buying our small piece of paradise. We both decided then and there that this place was perfect for our surf retreat and set about looking for land here. It took another five years for our ideas to come together.
In 2013 we returned to West Sumbawa and met Baha. Baha mentioned that he wished to sell his business of prawn farming and half his land. Baha's beachfront overlooked Yoyos surf break and is close to other world-renowned surf breaks, including Super Suck and Scar Reef. There at the river mouth, one could choose the beautiful swimming beach to the left, or a perfect right-hander to the right. The sale of the land was negotiated and we had our piece of this idyllic paradise.
The building begins:
We were thrown into the deep end pretty quickly. We had to get up to speed with the language to enable our build project to succeed. We both learned Bahasa. Baha's prawn ponds were filled in and fencing was erected to keep the wild cattle out. It was a steep learning curve for two Aussie carpenters to project-manage the build. It would not have come together without the assistance and friendship of Botok and Baha. Building materials were sourced from all over Indonesia, and local labor was utilized. Soon the septic tanks were in and the bores for water dug were in - the dream was becoming a reality.
Here we are now. Since 2016, the Baha Baha Villas have been a retreat for travelers and surfers who come to share the serenity of an unhurried pace of life.
