The surf
Whatever you seek, we'll find the best waves for you depending on the conditions of the day. We'll explore the unspoiled beauty of the remote islands off the coast of Sumatra (Mentawai, Telos, Banyaks, and Engano region). Whether you're looking for breaks that are heavy enough to challenge even the most experienced Indo veterans, or you prefer gentle waves that are just ideal for a good, fun surf (without the crowds that you have to deal with at home!), we'll bring you to your perfect wave. Our guides have years of experience as well as access to the latest swell and weather forecasts.
There are waves in this area year-round, however, the most ideal time to surf this area is March to November, the southern hemisphere winter when the Indian Ocean is an active groundswell producing machine.
A perfect day surfing at Sibon Baru
Wake up around 6 am and the boat will be already on the spot chose by the surf guide on the night before. Choose to have a nice breakfast first or just get a cup of coffee and jump on the water for the first session of the day. Enjoy the whole morning at your own pace! At midday, lunch will be served and we can decide if we will sail to another surf spot or if we will stay on the same one.
In the afternoon, guests can surf as many times as they want, eat, dive, snorkel, fish, swim, go to an island, use our SUP or kayak, read a book - you can do whatever you want. In the evenings, we move the boat to a safe place to anchor, or we sail to a more distant spot to be closer to the next day's spot. Dinner time is the main meal of the day, after a very intense day of surf. It is a very nice moment when guests drink beers, enjoy food, talk about the day and enjoy life together, sharing unforgettable moments.
The boat
Sibon Baru is a 62-foot aluminum-powered catamaran with twin Hiunday Marine 260 HP main engines. This is an affordable yacht with lots of space. It's comfortable and STABLE. This catamaran won't roll from side to side like other boats (particularly nice for those who are prone to sea-sickness). This boat was built by surfers, for surfers, with the emphasis on function and practicality, Sibon Baru gives you the room you need to enjoy yourself when scouring the North Sumatran coast for dream waves.
The boat is fully air-conditioned, has six large cabins furnished with twin beds, and is equipped with all modern navigational and safety equipment. We have many kinds of travelers, from the pro surfers like Taj Burrow, Josh Kerr, Felipe Toledo, and many others to guests that prefer to surf mellow waves, fish, and rest. We make them all satisfied and happy. Just let us know what you expect from us and we will offer you what you need!
Food
We believe that to make a great trip unforgettable we need to offer a high stand service and food. So our meals are really delicious! Fresh fish, fresh veggies and fruits, snacks anytime, all-inclusive. Our chef is insane! We provide three gourmet meals per day - a well-served breakfast, a nice lunch, and an amazing dinner to close the day talking about all barrels and share life with friends. All snacks and fruits as well as drinking water, isotonic, hot drinks, juices, and soft drinks are provided and each guest has a 24-pack of the best local beer.
Activities
We always plan our days according to our guest's desires. When not surfing, you can use our stand-up paddleboard, snorkel, fishing gear, and speedboats to go to an island or just stay at the boat, chill with friends, reading a book, or watching a movie on our 50'LCD TV - just enjoy all our boat's equipment and amenities.
Sustainability/responsibility
This is a big problem. We are trying to reduce our trash by eliminating our bottles first. We no longer buy bottles like spring water. We produced customized Flask Thermal Water bottles and we offer one for each guest to be used during their stay. We also promote consistent beach cleanings with crew and guests. We pick up all trash from beaches and reefs. That’s not enough, but it’s something.

The Sibon Charters team is made of surfers to surfers. All partners are surfers that love the ocean, love life, love making other people happy, and love to be able to share this feeling with others. Our main goal is to offer the best experience possible to each guest in one of the most beautiful places in the world (surely the most incredible wavemaker!).
Before we became a surf charter company, we were guests on other boats and resorts. So we know perfectly what guests expect and what makes them happy. Our main goal daily is to find the best surf spot of the day with the most uncrowded and perfect wave possible. For that to happen, we study all spots around, know what are all conditions make all those waves break, know how it will break on each condition, and then be constantly aware of the swell/wind forecast to find this best spot of the day. We very frequently score great and perfect conditions, many times uncrowded with only our boat.
Our team works hard to make every trip unforgettable and we aim to offer a high stand service and food - our chef is insane and our crew always try to spoil our guests as much as possible, so they can enjoy their time in our boat and want to come back the next year!
