Maderas is the closest beach to San Juan Del Sur, which makes it one of the cultural centers of Nicaraguan surfing. Local surfers flock here and there are contests happening year-round. The wave itself is kind of average, not as good as the beach breaks to the north, but it's a stunning setting and a nice place to relax.

The best season for surf is during summer. Prime season is April through September. Much of October typically sees onshore wind and heavy rain, while November is a sleeper month with late-season pulses and good conditions.

Selina Maderas is located just a few minutes' walk from Playa Maderas—San Juan Del Sur's most popular surf spot—and a 15-minute drive from downtown San Juan del Sur. Our reimagined traditional jungle destination boasts views of Pacific Coast foothills and jungle foliage, as well as the sounds of howler monkeys singing nearby.

Playa Maderas is one of the best surf spots in Nicaragua as it offers a beach with plenty of breaks for both beginners and experienced surfers. Playa Maderas Surf is known for its amazing left and right breaks, where local surfers will take you. Head there with your board and watch the sunrise over the waves. The surfing community is welcoming and offers a variety of surfing excursions that even solo adventurers can take part in and maybe even make some good friends for life.

Because the coast is backed by a forest teeming with life, we have many other activities you can participate in, such as zip-lining in San Juan del Sur, walking and hiking, among others. Life on the beach couldn't be more exciting.

Tucked away from the lights and noise of the city, the Emerald Coast offers the serene tranquility of a deeply grounded sense of self. Local yogis offer lessons to refocus and recharge.
