What makes Nicaragua special, the Rivas province in particular, for surfing is the wind created by the Lake Effect. Lake Nicaragua creates over 300 days of consistent all-day offshore winds. It isn't that onshore never happens, but our location isn't like other places where the wind always turns onshore afternoon.

For surfing, the best season for you will depend on your ability. If you are intermediate to advanced and looking for consistent waist to high overhead swells, Nicaragua surf is best from the end of March until September. A consistent southern swell typically shows up during the peak of the dry season at the end of March. Then the surf swell will build over the next few months. With June firing consistently and you can find more waves in a day than you've ever likely experienced.

If you are a beginner or haven't surfed in a while, you can easily surf year-round. But November through January and March through May are more favorable. You will see smaller waves and fewer crowds in the water. February is one of the best months for beginners, but even through "swell season," there are numerous, softer waves nearby where beginners can still have lots of fun and waves.

Wet Season: Starting May through November, it is known as the wet season. The term is deceiving in that it is just passing tropical rains not lasting long, and typically at night, we prefer to call it Green Season. September and October are the peaks of the rainy season. During these two months, you will experience the most rain.

Dry Season: Typically begins at the end of November through the mid-end of May. Things typically stay Green until February and stronger winds arrive in February/March, which makes the hotter temperatures more enjoyable.

The lodge

Located in Playa Jiquelete, a one-minute walk to a fast beach break wave. Newly remodeled cabanas, and restaurant bar, to accommodate the health-conscious adventurer.

All of the cabanas at our surf beach resort have been designed with the environment in mind, from the beautiful bamboo-clad walls to the organic in-room amenities. Spacious and breezy, each one provides direct access to the surrounding natural landscape.

We bring the oasis in with lush tropical plants, soft, billowing linens, rainfall showers, and wood and woven elements. While each one is individually styled, we have four categories of the cabana, depending on your needs. Cabanas can be booked individually by night or as part of an all-inclusive package.

Joah has been traveling to Nicaragua since 2016. With a deep love for the ocean, sun, the local community and the tranquility of Nicaragua, she has spent the last year escaping the Canadian winter and learning to surf.

With a background in hospitality, Airbnb host, nutritionist, fitness instructor, and photographer, it was the perfect fit when the opportunity to re-open So Lost became available.

After much help from the local Santana Surf community and instructors, Joah has been able to progress rapidly from never having touched a surfboard in February 2021 to fearlessly paddling out into any wave during any swell, even if half the waves end up being wipeouts, it’s her local guides who have instilled the confidence and drive to continue to learn and become an advanced surfer.

That being said, SoLost was born from the love for the kindness of the surf community. We work closely with the Santana, Surf Team to help underfunded, naturally talented boys get equipment and travel to competitions.

Joahs passions involve good healthy food, surfing, adventures, and meeting new people. Thus SoLost was created from much love and passion for this community and all that comes with it.
