Ericeira is one of the world’s best places to learn the art of surfing. Here you’ll have access to a wide variety of waves that are consistent all year round. Enjoy sunny and warm summers, fresh seafood and delicious specialties, incredible nature, and an alluring local atmosphere.
The majority of Portuguese pro surfers come here due to the high quality of its waves. One of the longest breaks, Ribeira d’llhas, hosts two WSL competitions annually.
The Atlantic Ocean can get very cold, and the reefs can be sharp, so we advise you to wear a 4/3 wetsuit and booties. The air temperature can reach higher temperatures in the summer than usual, so the cool water feels nice and refreshing.
Ericeira is a surf mecca: the incredible breaks and pristine condition of the local beaches and water prompted environmental organization “Save the Waves Coalition”, in co-operation with the International Surfing Association (ISA) and the National Surfing Reserves of Australia, to select Ericeira as a dedicated World Surfing Reserve - the first and only one in Europe.

Rapture Surf Camps were founded in 2003 by two amazing people with one thing in common - a love of surfing. Not just the sport, but the lifestyle and the travel and adventure involved in the search for new places to surf in far-off countries while experiencing diverse cultures.
One came from Australia, a stronghold of modern surfing. He was born and bred with the ocean on his doorstep and started surfing at a very young age, competing in contests and eventually becoming one of Sydney’s top surf photographers. Later, one of Portugal’s most respected big wave water photographers. The other hailed from Austria, a country landlocked on all sides. Without the ocean nearby, from an early age, his afternoons and weekends were spent snowboarding in the winter. And, of course, wakeboarding in the summer. It was not until later in life that he was blessed with a love of surfing. He pursued his new passion at every opportunity.
Each an entrepreneur in his own right, a chance meeting while surfing and traveling in Morocco resulted in the two putting their heads together in order to find a way to pursue their dreams. They wanted to surf great waves for the rest of their lives, the dream of all surfers. And so Rapture Surf Camps was born.
Now they’re a network of seven unique surf camps in four countries on three continents. In the last fifteen years, we’ve helped more than fifteen thousand people from all over the world to learn to surf and find the best waves.
