The surf
The Hinako Islands are one of the most consistent surf destinations in the entire world. Its broad exposure towards the southern Indian Ocean provides these islands with consistency and high quality waves all year long.
When Asu is good our boat will take you from your bed to the peak in 5 minutes any time of day you like. When Asu is not working we will take you to other spots close by. There are five waves in our area, with a distance of 5 to 50 minutes by speedboat.
The main surfing season is between March 1st and November 1st. During March and April, waves are small to medium, glassy conditions. During the month of May, there are medium to large swells and glassy conditions. In June there are solid swells and generally clean conditions.
During July, August and September, waves are bigger and there are offshore winds. There are consistent medium swells and smooth conditions in October, and small to medium and smooth conditions in November.

We are the only resort with a white sand swimming beach and private pier directly in front of your room. We take our guests directly to the Asu lineup in less than 5 minutes. For any other spots we launch directly from the pier in front of your room. We always have a boat in the channel with cold water, snacks and a photographer for our guests comfort and safety.
All rooms have air conditioning, and western standard bathrooms include hot water showers. There are flexible dining options from our internationally-trained chef.
The tropical paradise that surrounds Puri Asu Resort offers more than just amazing surfing. The resort offers plenty of recreational equipment to make exploring and enjoying the local environment easy for all guests. Facilities include beach front yoga gazebo, surf view private gazebo, fitness and yoga gazebo, and jetski for tow-in and water safety. SUPs, fishing equipment, and snorkeling gear are free of charge and there are no extra costs for boat surf transfers to other spots in the area.
It is safe to walk around the island, everybody knows each other and there is no crime or aggression.
Activities
We have a central Yoga gazebo as well as a beachfront Yoga gazebo. Yoga mats are free of charge. We have an assortment of gym and training equipment for you to use free of charge.
The fishing is very good in the waters close to the resort. We usually troll at the end of the day and hope for some fresh sashimi for dinner. Trolling equipment is provided by the resort. If you want to try your hand at casting, jigging or popping, we recommend you bring a pole and a few midsize lures. There are Wahoo, Spanish Mackeral, small Tuna, Barracuda, Trevally, Mahi Mahi and Sailfish in the area. We will take you fishing upon request at any time, weather permits.
There is good snorkeling right in front of the resort. We provide equipment free of charge for our guests. If the waves are flat, there are a few additional spots in the area we will be happy to take you to upon request.
Dining
The Puri Asu Resort Restaurant offers our guests a relaxed atmosphere in the most idyllic setting with some of the tastiest food in Sumatra. Each day, the resort’s chef prepares a variety of food and uses seafood caught by local fishermen and our guests as often as possible.
Breakfast: All guests order individually from a wide selection of breakfast choices. Breakfast is served between 7:00 am – 10:00 am

Starting in 1996, pre-internet, Steve, the owner, arrived in Asu Island based on stories and rumors. After staying rough built our first wooden bungalows. In 2008 he partnered up with Paris Chong from CA and Marcelo Noto from Brazil and, with the support of the island population of 40 people, started to build a higher level of accommodation and marine navigation.
All operational products and supplies are sourced from the region and surrounding islands. Puri Asu Resort does everything possible to maintain the cleanliness and natural environment, especially by teaching the local community about sustainable practices. Puri Asu Resort also provides first aid assistance to the local community as there is no other facilities on the island.
Overall our guiding philosophy is to try and give our guests the experience they are looking for and do so in comfort and safety.
