Our strongest swells come from March to November. A flat ocean is extremely rare here, making G-Land Joyo's one of the camps with the most consistent breaks in the world. There are seven main breaks in the region and there are waves for every surf level.
Most of our waves are suitable for the most skilled surfers - big gaping barrels, long perfect walls reeling down our endless point, allowing surfers to carve huge turns and ride some of the deepest and longest barrels of their life.
At high tide, the waves are easy to surf and break in deeper water. At a lower tide, the waves start to barrel. We offer a Zodiac boat transfer service, available to take you out to the break mid to high tide. During low tide, walk across the reef to paddle out.
Joyo’s camp is at a National Park called “Alas Purwo” and is located directly in front of the famous section of reef known as Speedies. Our usual guests love being in the water and the jungle - a shared passion for nature.
Our bungalow-style accommodations were constructed with as much natural element as possible inside the rooms. Each bungalow accommodates comfortably 2 to 4 sleeping adults.
The main relaxation house is fully equipped with everything you will need just to lay back and enjoy the post-surfing moments. The dining room features a bar with cold local beer Bintang, soft drinks and complete entertainment, including TV with surround sound stereo system, DVD player with a great collection of the latest movies, music, and TV satellite channels. This area also has two large pool tables, tennis tables, a yoga hall and wi-fi.
The national park
Alas Purwo National Park is situated on Blambangan Peninsula in the Banyuwangi Regency, at the southeastern tip of East Java province. The park is famous for its wild Banteng (a species of cattle found only in Southeast Asia and Australia) and for its surfing location at Grajagan Bay.
The park’s name means “first forest” or “ancient forest,” per a Javanese legend that says the Earth first emerged from the ocean of this magical destination.
Surfing and other activities
Here, the wave’s long lines are unmistakably perfect and arguably, you can find the world’s best left-hander.
During your stay, enjoy the days by the ocean to also go out and explore the unlimited nooks and crannies of beautiful white sand beaches and bays. Go out and do some snorkeling, spearfishing, or paddle-boarding.
When not surfing, take advantage of this unique location, explore the jungle and immerse yourself within nature, a truly fantastic experience. Here, the jungle is thick and tropical, unlike the dry arid landscape of nearby islands such as Bali or Lombok. Not in the mood for that? Enjoy some of our other activities, such as yoga, sunbathing, beachcombing, and diving.
GLand is a magical wild place. The first surfers here used to camp in the jungle, surrounded by tigers, all for the perfect left. The beach has come a long way but has not lost its charm. Founded in 1990, Joyo’s camp is set amongst a National Park called “Alas Purwo” and is open March to November and located just off the beach line, directly in front of the famous section of reef known as Speedies.
