Bali has waves year-round. In the dry season, April through October, the swells are more consistent, larger, and generally better on the Bukit Penninsula and the west side of Bali. The trade winds are offshore and the waves are perfectly groomed.
The most famous waves are Uluwatu, Padang Padang, and Bingin, but here we can find waves for all skills. On the East side of Bali are some amazing waves, like Keramas, that can get good in the mornings and when the winds are light. In the wet season, there are still plenty of waves, but the swells are smaller and less frequent and the winds are usually a little lighter.
Puri Uluwatu Villas was built by surfers for surfers and their families. Large rooms offer more space than those of budget as well as luxury hotels and villas on the island. We run our resort on a family rather than a formal principle of guest service. We aim to make our guests feel like they are a part of the magic of Bali rather than just a tourist on holiday.
Puri Uluwatu Villas was founded in 1997 as one of the first accommodations in the Uluwatu area providing full services and air-conditioned rooms.
Our location on the cliff above the famous surfing beach of Uluwatu is arguably the best in the Uluwatu area. We are close to all of Uluwatu’s newest entertainment venues. Single Fin, Ulu Cliffhouse, Omnia Bali, Cashew Tree, Uluwatu Surf Villas, and many more.
We have a total of 10 rooms. We are not a large chain hotel and provide family-style service. If you are looking for a standard tourist hotel, then maybe Puri Uluwatu Villas is not for you.
We have a private staircase that descends to the beach and sea cave below. This eliminates driving parking etc., when guests just want to take a quick swim or see the sunset from the white sand beach below. For surfers, the ability to go from the bed to the waves in less than five minutes has often been described as priceless.
Puri Uluwatu Villas is a safe place for children or people traveling alone. All of our staff members are part of the local community and most are related to each other. We try our best to make guests feel at home as well as to show them a bit of Balinese Culture that they won’t see on tour or in a large hotel.

Activities in the area
Uluwatu Beach is famous for its surf. What is also unique is the beautiful beach and low tide natural swimming pools. At high tide, you can go to neighboring Padang-Padang, Bingin, and Thomas Beach. Dreamland, Balangan, and Nyang-Nyang are a few other alternate beaches for you to enjoy.
Starting in 1996, pre-internet, Steve, the owner, arrived in Asu Island based on stories and rumors. After staying rough built our first wooden bungalows. In 2008 he partnered up with Paris Chong from CA and Marcelo Noto from Brazil and, with the support of the island population of 40 people, started to build a higher level of accommodation and marine navigation.
All operational products and supplies are sourced from the region and surrounding islands. Puri Asu Resort does everything possible to maintain the cleanliness and natural environment, especially by teaching the local community about sustainable practices. Puri Asu Resort also provides first aid assistance to the local community, as there are no other facilities on the island.
Overall our guiding philosophy is to try and give our guests the experience they are looking for and do so in comfort and safety.
