Portugal has consistent swell all year-round and the Algarve surf spots have the potential for good, uncrowded waves during most part of the year. When wintertime swells hit the west coast, waves are around 8-10ft, with 12-15ft maximums.
During summer, we usually get up to double overhead waves. This time of the year is good for beginners since we have gentler, smaller waves. Spring and Autumn have more challenging conditions, best for more experienced surfers.
Our village has several types of holiday country houses. We have one bedroom houses for 2 people up to a maximum of 8 people in a 3 bedroom house. All have the original design and each one is unique in detail.
All houses have an open space area with a kitchenette, living room, and dining area. Some houses also have a terrace and outdoor space with either one, two, or three bedrooms.
Activities
On the Costa Vicentina, the variety of activities related to nature and the sea is endless. Make the most of Aldeia da Pedralva and "activate" your stay with the experiences we have available, such as hiking, cycling, boat tours, Jeep tours, donkey tours, tours to the nearby beaches, and cultural tours.
Surf
During your stay, make the most of the proximity to some of the Algarve beaches with better conditions for surfing. Located in Praia do Amado, Amado Surf School is one of the most prestigious in the region. Learn to slide the waves with instructors certified by the Portuguese Surfing Federation.
Sítio da Pedralva Restaurant
Enjoy the traditional Portuguese cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant is becoming a must gastronomic stop in Costa Vicentina. Open all year round, Sítio da Pedralva has a specialty: codfish in bread "Pedralva style" or lam chomps with sweet mashed potatoes.
Breakfast is served at the restaurant and upon reservation, you can take away your breakfast and start your day anywhere in the village.
In 2006, when we discovered this village, it had only nine of its original inhabitants left and a set of 50 houses in an advanced state of disrepair. Only nine of these homes met the minimum condition of habitability.
Against this background and decided to give new life and dignity to this village, we initiated the first phase of this complex process of urban recovery. For a year and a half, we searched Portugal and Europe for over 200 owners/heirs to negotiate and buy a group of 31 houses.
Having overcome this, we started the process of urban rehabilitation, trying to reproduce the rural environment faithfully through the use of restored furniture in all the houses, as well as the use of building materials faithful to traditional old buildings.
The municipality of Vila do Bispo also envisioned in the project the recovery of its heritage and history, deciding this was an opportunity to recover, and therefore add, another village to their County. The Council invested in the necessary infrastructure such as the burying of electrical lines, new lighting, plumbing, and pavements for the streets, in keeping with the feel and spirit of ancient villages.
The Aldeia of Pedralva wants to become an active Touristic Village and has promoted various sporting events, of which we can highlight the sponsorship of the WQS-World Surf Algarve for the last four years and the MTB National Marathon Cup. Furthermore, because Aldeia da Pedralva should have its own life and given the enormous human wealth of artisans existing in this region, we intend to activate cultural life in this village related to the arts and artisans. Here we emphasize the four crafts fairs in the streets of the village.
