The surf
When it comes to surfing in Sri Lanka, everyone would like to get it right with the weather and surf conditions. To start off, we can tell you that there are two coastlines in Sri Lanka where you can surf: one is the east coast, where the season starts from May to October, and another one is the south coast, where the season starts from October to April. Our best surf camps are located on the south coast, which has the longest surf season with many surf points to choose from.
October to April gives dry and sunny weather conditions to the south coast. Water temperatures will be around 80°C-90°F (25°C-30°C), which gives you a great opportunity to surf in Sri Lanka without a wet suit. The combination of head-high glassy waves, long periods, and offshore winds creates the setting for perfect surf conditions for anyone from beginners to advanced surfers.
May to September is off-season for surfing in Sri Lanka but still great temperatures and conditions for other travelers. The so-called monsoon period only delivers some rain at night and the rest of the day is always great weather.

Weligama is the home of our surf camp and was once just another sleepy coastal town. Now, it is widely known as one of Sri Lanka's best beginner surf destinations. Weligama is a huge bay on the southern tip of the island, protected from the heaviest swells, making its waves soft and smooth, perfect for beginner surfing.
Even when there are high walls striking through the reefs of nearby surf spots outside of Weligama Bay, you can still enjoy slow and easy beach breaks here. All along with the shore, comprising a beginner-intermediate surfing beach, you can find some of the top-rated Sri Lanka surf camps. Thus the best surf schools are within 500m distance. There is never a shortage of board rentals and surf instructors ready to bring your surfing to another level. And hey - it's not only the best surf for beginners. As Weligama is located perfectly in the middle of all the best surf breaks Sri Lanka offers on the southwest, there are plenty of nearby reefs and point breaks for intermediates.
Within 15-30 minute drive in both directions from our surf camp, you can hit lots of quality surf spots: from Matara surf breaks to some of the best surf spots of Ahangama. This is also a great way to gradually advance from soft beach breaks to some of the zippy reef surf points.

Our TS2 Weligama surf camp is located just 100 meters away from the Weligama surfing beach off the city center. Even if you book TS2 Weligama surf camp, your surf and yoga lessons, food, and social events will be happening at the Beach Camp, our main location in Sri Lanka.
We will offer you a free ride between these surf camps for your convenience, as TS2 Weligama surf camp is located just a 5-minute ride away from the Beach Camp.
You can enjoy all the facilities at the Beach Camp even though you book TS2 Weligama surf camp!
If you have a feeling to try out living in an authentic Sri Lankan environment that is just meters from the best beginner surf area, nothing beats TS2 Weligama surf camp.
The whole place is designed with one apartment on each floor. Each apartment includes three bedrooms with private bathrooms, a living area, plus a chill-out rooftop restaurant.
Location wise, this is also a great spot just off the busy city center, but still, within 5 minutes walking distance to the beach and 5 minutes ride to our main The Surfer beach camp. So everything you need is just around the corner.

That way, you are sure to get the personal feedback and tips that guarantee fast progress on the surfboard! Here all lessons are conducted by ISA certified surf instructors and top-rated yoga teachers. Our highly professional team includes native Lankan, Germans, Dutch, Scandinavians, or British with fluent English and good knowledge of the local surf scene.

The Surfer Surf Camps in Sri Lanka are fully owned by a local surfer who was born and grew up in Weligama. Located at the heart of the surfing area in Weligama, our goal at the camp is to get you up and ripping the waves as fast as possible! We know that you would like to get the most out of your stay here.
Both of our surf camps in Sri Lanka are located in Weligama, which is a cozy beach city with all comforts. You have easy access to doctors, pharmacies, restaurants, convenience stores, shopping centers, banks, and ATMs. But we understand that you are here for surfing and that’s what it is all about. It is really easy to get around on a scooter or tuk-tuk. There is much sightseeing you can do within a one-hour radius. The nightlife is very good with restaurants and lively bars which are only ten minutes away along the coast by tuk-tuk.
