There are two surf seasons in Costa Rica. The dry season, from October until April, is when the waters are warm and the waves are friendly and less powerful.
The green season or wet season is from May until August and it is the top time for surfing. Santa Teresa gets very reliable SW and W swells that keep it surfable every day. Even though that's considered the best time of the year, you can find beginner to advanced spots all year long.
Low tide hours are the best in Santa Teresa as this is when the breaks are faster and more fun to ride. Surfing is mostly about riding fast waves and catching world-class breaks in this region. This area is best suited for advanced surfers, but there are some fun spots for beginners.
Pura Vida Surfers is a local surf school and retreat situated in the astonishing Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. Locally owned and operated, we offer a personal experience focused on sharing our love of surfing with everyone, from beginners to advanced. Our goal is to spread our knowledge and give everyone who visits a lifetime trip.
Our property is a quick five-minute walk to the beach. Tucked away in the jungle, you escape the noise of the road while being conveniently close to town. There is a pool and communal area with a large tv, couches, and games. All rooms have hot water and AC.
Our Surf House is a perfect option for families or groups that want space of their own. It was two separate rooms upstairs with ac, queen beds, and balconies with a partial sunset view.
Downstairs is a full kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Surrounded by fruit trees and jungle, this is a beautiful and peaceful spot to relax after surfing.
We have six rooms with private bathrooms. All include AC, hot water, mini-fridge, television, high-speed wifi, workspace, and a safe box. Inquire for prices.
Two of our rooms are private with shared bathrooms. Bathrooms are shared between only the two rooms and have two toilets and 2 showers. The rooms include ac, television, mini-fridge, workspace, queen bed, and a bunk bed.
When asked if surfing is a sport or art, Barton Lynch (former world tour champion) said: "Surfing is medicine for your soul and something that makes whoever has it in his or her life better for it". With Pura Vida Surfers, our goal is to share the surf medicine with our friends who become our surf family.
Most of our surfers return to Santa Teresa to surf with us again, bringing more family and friends with them. For us, surfing is not only a lifestyle, it's an extension of who we are. With our surf camp, we've created a space where we can be ourselves, fun, free, and devoted to surfing.
Located in the small but fun beach town of Playa Santa Teresa, we have a perfect balance of sanctuary and amenities. Filled with like-minded artists and athletes, this town has no shortage of amazing restaurants or athletic classes. It is filled with nature to explore, from the cascading waterfalls in Montezuma to the national park of Cabo Blanco.
Let us be your guides through the trip of a lifetime.
