Santana Laut

Our surf guides - veteran Aussie captain John Shawcross and Tony "Doris" Eltherington - each has many years’ experience exploring every nook and cranny in Sumatra. Guests will have the chance to surf either the Mentawai Islands (the whole region) - or further north to the Telo Islands (as well as parts of the Northern Mentawai) as well as The Banyak Islands.

A perfect day surfing

Wake up before the sun is up, the boat is already at a perfect spot, waves are pumping, ideally nobody else around. The guests are starting to wake up, is great to hear all excitement and anticipation for the day ahead. A couple of stretch light yoga sessions at the bow as the sun is coming out getting ready for the first surf of the day!

Sun is up waves are perfect. We're out in the Islands away from the businesses of the world. Just you and your mates, sharing barrels after barrels in paradise. A few surf sessions through the days: 1,2,3 4,6 more !! some great feeds, music, talks, relaxing in between. Some good laughs in the water, watching the sunset from the ocean, catching the last few waves of the day. The LAGO (late afternoon glass off ) in full effect.

We come back to the boat cracking a cold beer sailing to the near-sleep anchorage, last few lights of the day, beautiful surrounds. Seating down at the outside dining area and recap the highlights of the day, hopefully, somebody caught a fish and we had sashimi for entree!

And the best thing is that tomorrow we going to do it all over again!!!!

The Santana Laut was originally built as a single screw fishing trawler and converted to a surf charter in 2015. Eight guest cabins (four double berths, two double berth and one single berth) have air conditioning and can sleep 16 surfers total. Other amenities include a large shaded outdoor area, two external bathrooms, two interior dining areas, and a large saloon with a 64 inch TV.

The crew

On Santana Laut, we go that extra mile to make sure you have the best surf experience possible. Our priority is to provide the perfect surf venture combined with excellent service and comfortable space where all the small details were thought out. On the head of the operation is the legendary captain Tony “Doris”, with many years of experience in the Ments, one of the pioneers on the surf charter industry in Mentawais,, he's probably done more charters on the islands than anyone else he’s a charger surfer, really good skipper so you know you are super safe and knowledgable hands, Tony and the crew will ensure to get you surfing the best waves as possible!!

Comfortable boat/relaxation/fun

After a packed day of surf, you will be truly ready to rest your body, we offer 8 cozy and comfortable guest cabins with options of singles or double beds, a big living room equipped with all commodities, 2 inside dine areas, marine air-con, hot water system. Huge outside hang-out area with dining table. kayaks, sups, dive gear, fish gear, gym equipment. An 8m tender boat can take up to 12 people equipped with Gps, fishfinder, surf racks, for surf checks and fishing missions, and a small dinghy for surf pickups and drop-offs. We also offer a massage therapist and yoga classes upon request.

Other activities besides surfing are also available for children and adults, such as stand-up paddleboarding, snorkeling, fishing, tin boat tours, beach days, swimming, and village tours.

Surf food

Santana Laut has an excellent chef on board, we provide 3 delicious health meals p/d, snacks, fresh cold press juices, acais and pitaya bowls, smoothies, fresh fruits, fresh bread baked every day, chocs, cakes, desserts, coconut water, cold beers, and more. We cater for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarians, vegans. Want to go on a Surf charter but don't want to leave your health habits at home?
