Santa Barbara is known as the land of right-hand point breaks and we are lucky to have Rincon, one of the best waves in the country, aka the "Queen of the Coast," in our backyard. On an average day, the waves may be anywhere from 2-3 feet at most beach breaks, but when the swell is on the rise, it opens up more opportunities up and down the coast.
Conditions vary from fun, clean and easy surf for all skill levels to occasional winter swells with bigger, heavier waves for the more experienced surfer.
The small days are a great opportunity to hit the beach breaks and really refine your approach to learn how to react to quick-moving waves with style. A lot of surfers try and force maneuvers and end up having an aggressive or wonky style, working with me is all about smoothing out your game no matter what the waves are doing.
There's lots to do in Santa Barbara whether you want to enjoy the outdoors and hit a beautiful hiking trail in the mountains with epic ocean views, or cruise around town and get to experience our unique community. If you book a half day I can point you in the right direction for fun after we surf or if you book a full day I can show you some of my favorite spots to hang out and enjoy SB.
Santa Barbara is where some of the best waves in California are and where I get to call home. I especialize in teaching the Curren Method which helps intermediate to advanced surfers take their style and performance to the next level.
My name is Frank Curren and I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. I grew up in a surfing family that traveled the world for surf contests and surf trips since I was young. I have ten years of surf coaching experience with anyone from beginners of all ages to professional surfers competing around the world.
I am happy to share my knowledge about the surfing world as well as teach what I know about the sport. I have a great connection with the locals all over Santa Barbara/Ventura county, which allows for more accessibility to certain surf spots with fewer people and better waves.
