If you are a beginner wanting to stand up on the board for the first time, an intermediate surfer wanting to increase your wave count, or an advanced surfer looking to test your skills on our empty point breaks, you will find the perfect waves for you. It doesn’t matter where you are on your surfing journey.
The multiple beaches and point breaks of Cambutal, and the endless supply of rolling waves in our neighboring surf town of Guanico, offer a variety of wave opportunities for every level of surfer. This location is known for its numerous surf spots and diversity of breaks. The dry season, January through April, is the best season for wave shape as the winds blow offshore almost continually. August through October is the best season for wave size.
A perfect day
A perfect day surfing at Sansara consists of hitting up all the great local (uncrowded) spots, low tide, high tide, mid-tide breaks. This all starts with strong coffee, a day of warm waves, and cold beers to follow.
The peaceful Panamanian village of Cambutal is in Los Santos on the Azuero Peninsula. It is about a five-hour drive from the capital Panama City, and is located at the southernmost tip of Panama. Cambutal's beautiful beaches and mountains are ideal places to enjoy a relaxing holiday, and you can find inspiration in everything around you.
Explore miles of the Pacific coastline, enjoy Panama’s best surfing, practice yoga while the sound of the waves guide your breath, or get ready for some great and adventurous experiences. Here at Sansara you will find twelve different rooms/cabanas available for up to 4 guests (adults or children older than 14 years) and will have direct and private access to the beach. We also have an amazing restaurant and bar on-site where you will be able to enjoy delicious dishes prepared with fresh local produce. Last but not least, we also have an on-site SPA, a saltwater pool, a Buddha Patio, and a little merch store.
Our resort attracts the kindest folks - we see the type of traveler who has an adventurous spirit, loves connection, and is happy traveling 5+ hrs to the end of the road... because they know that getting to paradise takes time.
Sansara Resort is the product of a shared dream. We are a former high school teacher and a former pro skier & entrepreneur. We share our love for nature and passion to follow our dreams. About 10 years ago we sold everything we had and left Canada to chase the vision we had for our dream resort on the pacific coast of Panama. We always aspired to live near the ocean in a place where we could surf, practice yoga, and continually grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. But to truly make our dreams a reality, we wanted to create a place where we could share our incredible experiences with others. More than just a resort, we designed Sansara for you to come alive and experience the magic of this place.
Community/responsibility/sustainability
Sansara represents so much more than brick and mortar, built with so much love and intention. The goal has always been to inspire others and provide meaningful experiences. What we did not expect was the beautiful long-lasting relationships that have been fostered and continue to be nourished throughout the years; and how much it has given back and inspired us. What we love most about the lifestyle and the business we have created is how heart-centered our day-to-day life is. It is about creating possibilities and potential for people. This extends from our staff and the local employment opportunities, all the way to the guest experience, and how much a week slowing down, in nature, with good food, great surf, inspiring yoga, connection, and kind people can give to a person.
It is also very important to us that we contribute to our community. We believe in giving back to and improving our community by utilizing the benefits of tourism to promote sustainable development and employment in Cambutal. We support our community by employing residents and purchasing local products whenever possible. We are also avid supporters of the local Turtle Awareness Program and community green initiatives aimed at preserving the beautiful nearby Cerro Hoya National Park.
To minimize our footprint at Sansara we use conscious judgment when it comes to sustainability practices. Sustainability is not just what we do - it is who we are. When building the resort, we made a deliberate effort to refrain from cutting down large trees on the property, instead of incorporating them into the resort design. The supplies used to build the resort were purchased locally, from sustainable sources. We utilized certified wood, recycled and rapidly renewable materials, as well as natural fabrics in the rooms, and for the flooring of the yoga shala and pool area.
Furthermore, we utilized architectural and design strategies that incorporated elements of local culture. Our pool runs on a chemical-free saltwater system, and the entire property is fitted with water-efficient equipment and fixtures. We have two onsite wells which provide water for our guests, and also nourish our plants and the wildlife in the surrounding area. Our next venture is how we can become more sustainable with our food program, perhaps a Sansara Farm and growing our food will be the next step.
