The surf
Cabarete offers fantastic surfing conditions and is one of the most consistent surf locations in the Caribbean. Catering to the beginner and intermediate/advanced riders, the main surf beach (Playa Encuentro) has wave conditions all year round. The peak wave season is from November through April.
The reef break at Playa Encuentro is one the most consistent spots on the island, with a large range of left and right-handed waves to choose from. It is also an excellent, safe place to learn how to surf.

Our tropical studios are suited for up to 4 persons, including a kitchen, bathroom, potable hot and cold water, a private terrace with a hammock, 24-hour electricity, and optional air-conditioning. In addition, our facilities include a swimming pool in the large tropical garden, a BBQ grill, an activity loft, and a free high-speed internet connection.

Surf school
Our surf school partner Pauhana (about us) is located on the surf beach Encuentro, 10mins walk away. Pauhana is the largest surf school in the country and offers private lessons with highly experienced, multi-lingual instructors who will teach you all the core skills needed for safe, successful, and enjoyable surfing.
Pauhana also boasts the widest, most comprehensive quiver choices on the island for board rentals and lessons, including soft tops, fish, retro, SUP, longboards, high-performance, and foil boards.
Kite & windsurfing
Learn kiteboarding at one of the best kitesurf destinations in the world, Cabarete on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. Hooked works with the best kite school in Cabarete, Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding, which offer high-quality/safe equipment and certified instructors with vast amounts of teaching experience.
LEK offers kiteboarding lessons, supervision with assistant instructors, advanced lessons in waves and tricks, kite gear rentals, locker rentals, a full retail shop, and kiteboarding equipment gear sales of both used and new equipment.
Our partners Vela Cabarete are located in Cabarete Bay itself, the prime location for windsurfing here on the north coast. Cabarete has been known as a world-class windsurf location since the 1980s. Whether you are looking to take your first beginner lessons or are already at an expert level, you’ll find the perfect conditions here to enjoy your windsurfing. The local trade winds provide strong and consistent wind year-round (with peak wind season running from May-September), and wave riding conditions are excellent most of the year as well.
The Vela center is equipped with only the best equipment for both lessons and rental (Neil Pryde, JP, Goya), and expert instructors to make learning how to Windsurf fast, easy, safe, and fun.
Other activities
Besides self-practicing yoga, in our tropical activity loft, we also can arrange a yoga teacher who teaches you the fundamentals of a balanced yoga practice. Dedicate some time during your holiday to learning the fundamental elements of a balanced yoga practice. Easily it can be incorporated back into your daily life at home.
Enjoy a relaxing massage in our activity loft or on your terrace; a unique blend of Thai, Indian, Tibetan, and Swedish oil massage techniques. The goal is to remove muscular knots, activate your blood and lymphatic circulation and help you relax fully.
Kayak your way through rapids and crystal-clear pools of the River Yasica under a canopy of lush tropical vegetation. Jump in the water, swim with the fish, listen to the birds and enjoy the incredibly beautiful countryside. Kayak tours are very easy-going and family-friendly.
It is also possible to arrange other activities such as diving, mountain biking, canyoning, horseback riding, zip-lining, fishing, hiking, and seasonal whale watching.

Carlos
Hooked Cabarete was founded by a Dutch couple in 2005. In 2012 they sold Hooked Cabarete to Walter and Jeannette Derungs, a Swiss-American couple. There have been many improvements to the Hooked Cabarete surf camp since Walter and Jeannette took over but the spirit of Hooked remains.
Carlos is our gardener and maintenance master. He has been with Hooked since the beginning and keeps the garden looking good. Carlos loves to open coconuts for guests with his fancy machete skills!
Niurka is our maid. She is the daughter of Carlos and does a great job keeping your rooms clean and tidy.
Together with Niurka and Carlos, we do everything we can to ensure everyone has a great holiday. Also, if you have any questions before or during your stay, don’t hesitate to ask. We are happy to give you info about the best places to go for dinner or a drink, nice things to do or see, or to answer any other questions you might have.
We at Hooked Cabarete offer everything to make your holiday in Cabarete perfect. Our small-scaled accommodation is located in the beautiful area of the National park Playa Encuentro right near the surf spot. We organize surf, windsurf and kite surf lessons, but also many other activities and trips and of course, we are also happy to give you advice about other things to do and see.
