Peniche is one of the best places to learn surfing with endless beach breaks. Ten minutes by car from our place, we will find the perfect surf spot with different kinds of waves suiting the surf level of our students. The varied coastline formed over time created peninsulas with beaches facing in different directions. This means that there’s always a good place to surf, no matter the swell or wind direction.
Peniche is home to the world-class wave Supertubos. You don’t have to be a pro surfer to enjoy a trip to Peniche. There are waves for all levels, mostly breaking over sand, making this one of the best places in Europe to learn to surf.
The Ferrel Surf House is a local surf camp in Peniche, Portugal - one of Europe‘s best locations for surfing. It is surrounded by spots that work at almost any given swell and wind direction, ensuring consistent surfing conditions. No waves? Not with us!
Our biggest priority is that our guests enjoy their stay in our surf camp and have a great experience in Peniche. Instead of huge people groups, we enjoy the familiar vibe of our surf community to spend a memorable time together. Therefore, our surf house is perfect for solo travelers, couples, groups, and surfers.
We welcome you to our brand new home in the charming village of Ferrel, where the beach and the countryside meet just outside our doorstep. Whether you are looking for a surf camp, a surf school, a surf house, or simply a lovely place to stay - this is the place for you!
Our Surf Hostel comes with a private suite, a two-bedroom, and two dorms. Meet the other guests of the house in our cozy living room, which invites for movie nights or guitar sessions, or in our fully equipped kitchen. Our pool and the outdoor area with comfortable lounges and the barbecue invites us to chill and spend some fun evenings together.
Of course, you are free to choose the activities of your stay, either surf all day long, go for long beach walks or join us at our surf house activities. We love to go on trips to explore more of the area of Peniche or spend the evening with a dinner or barbecue party together.
If you need time to work because, well, sometimes the work just has to be done, don´t worry! Take your laptop and sit in our quiet lounge, where you can concentrate and get it all done. Just make sure to watch your work-surf-balance.
We have all the services you need to enjoy your surf holiday without worrying about a single thing. Our goal? That you have the most amazing time here.
Ferrel Surf School
So far, our Surf School was included in the main base of Ferrel Surf House. Now we built a new place for all surf enthusiasts - directly on the beach! We kicked off this new location of our Surf School in April 2022 to offer our services to all Ferrel Surf House clients and walk-in guests even closer to the ocean.
This new place is meant to be an area where people meet people. You can stroll by and grab a coffee, use the outdoor facilities to hang out after your surfing, or book yourself a bed and stay here for your trip to Portugal.
Peniche
Peniche is well known as one of the best surf spots in the world. Have you heard of the famous wave of Supertubos? There is a reason why there are competitions from time to time.
Ferrel is the place directly next to Peniche in the area of Baleal. Once upon a time, Ferrel was a land of pirates and mysterious sailors who used the local cliffs to hide the loot of their ocean treasures.
The town of approximately 3000 people has a unique charm that combines the ocean and countryside. It is a place riddled with farmers, fishermen, and, more recently, people from all over the world who decided to stay after falling head over heels for the town. Among them are adventurers, travelers, artists, and surfers.
Activities
We wish you to have your best time at Ferrel Surf House in Portugal. We love to go for trips with our guests and have some fun together, go to the beach for a little volleyball tournament, or have a chilled dinner at night.
Grab a bike and explore the area of Peniche. Drive along beautiful coastal streets and smell the salty breeze. If you like cruising with a longboard or improving your surf movements while surf skating, we also have that in-store.
After some exhausting surf sessions, you will feel your muscles. Grab a yoga mat and join us for a relaxed yoga session in the garden or at the beach. You will feel the positive impacts on your mind and body.
If you see someone in the water surfing with his board upside down or backward, you've spotted Rui! "Let's rock'n roll!" is his favorite quote and keeps the motivation during the surf lesson ongoing. Owner and manager of the Ferrel Surf House and known as the kindest surf teacher in the house, Rui is a Portuguese surfer and local to Peniche.
Rui built his Surf House by heart and wants every guest to feel welcomed and to have the best time in Baleal. He loves to teaching surfing for 20 years and believes that surfing makes us better people. He cares a lot about his students' success and fun in the water, as he says: "Surfing is easy… when you know how to do that."
Pedro
If there is anyone you can feel safe in Portuguese waters, it's Pedro. He protects the space of his students and has been teaching surfing for 10 years. Born in South Africa and from Lisbon, he has been surfing for 30 years and sees every little improvement you can do in the water. His students love Pedro for his directness and honesty because this makes them improve in surfing so much. Pedro observes everything in the water. He teaches you not to expect anything and not to be upset about your results. As he says: "Be in the present moment and enjoy it! Trust the ocean and yourself."
Joaquim
May I introduce Joaquim, or how most of the people call him: just "Kim", who joined our team lately as an additional surf teacher. Kim is super patient with all his students and knows how to motivate them when they're out of energy.
Kim has over 10 years of experience in the surf industry and has a good feeling about how to explain the surf techniques to his students. In beginner classes, he loves to teach pop-ups and balance training in the form of fun and repetitive exercises. With more advanced people, Kim has a good eye for improving the stand on the board and catching the wave at the correct time and position.
Ana
Ana is a long-time friend of the house and a true all-round-hero. Late check-ins, breakfast, housekeeping… she does everything literally to make our guests feel welcomed in the house. She grew up in Peniche, knows the local environment and is always up to give some local tips. After work, Ana loves to spend some good times with friends in the sunset bars in Baleal or Peniche, so if you're ever in need of a well-made cocktail, she knows where to find the best one!
