We will explore the hundreds of available waves in the Buchupureo region. They are all sand bottom point breaks, all left and all amazing. There are at least a dozen well-known uncrowded waves for you and your crew to explore.
We will settle in one of the many available surf lodges and visit all the perfect lefts in these 43 km (28 miles) of never-ending point breaks.
Buchupureo is a little Chilean town in central Chile. It's where the mountains & small rivers meet with the Pacific Ocean. Right in front of this little town is a perfect southern winter wave with a perfect Indonesia-like feel, but with less crowd.
Both north and south of Buchupureo are about a dozen more perfect points, sometimes empty. So if you are the explorer-type surfer who wants to experience the almost final frontier in the southern Pacific Ocean, this is your adventure.
Depending on the client's needs, we either spend the first night in Santiago or drive directly to Buchupureo. It is a rather long drive from the city, 5-6 hours. Once settled in, we surf/ explore all the 28 miles of perfect point breaks. We will do that for the length of the adventure.
Culture, food & drink
This is South Chile, a region with a very laid-back atmosphere and with a countryside population with a tranquil vibe. We will meet a lot of other surf adventurers who are usually great people willing to share their spots and secrets.
Here, we have all the wonderful cheap seafood you can imagine. Local traditional food like empanadas will also delight our travelers. At night there isn't much of a scene. It's more of a surf exploration type of adventure.
We will be lodging in the best boutique-style lodges throughout the trip. All are cozy and warm with the best amenities available. Breakfast and hot tubs are included and you may choose single rooms or double rooms. All are near the waves, some even within walking distance.
I am Alex Otero, originally from the Dominican Republic now settled in Chile. Film and photography have been my profession for the past 30 years and surfing and windsurfing my passion for the past 40. My love for nature and great surfing brought me from the Caribbean to Chile, where I feel the earth and the person become one.
The Pacific coastline of 2,700 miles (4,300km) and the breathtaking Andes Mountains make this a unique experience for anyone and everyone. I have been exploring this country thoroughly as a surfer and as a documentary photographer for decades, even before moving here permanently. I love being a host and sharing with people the natural gem Chile is.
