San Diego is a fantastic place to learn to surf and enjoy the ocean. There are waves almost every single day and that means there's lots of fun to be had! Whether you are a total beginner or an advanced surfer, there is something here for everyone.
I know the best beaches to take beginners to learn and also where to take experienced surfers to have the best time based on what you like to surf. I prefer the waves in the north county but am happy to explore with you and find the beach that feels right for that day.
There is so much to do and see in addition to surfing. If you have time, we can check out the botanical gardens, go for a hike in the hills, or simply cruise around town and get lunch. Once summer hits, the days are long and there's lots of time to surf and chill in between.
Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Oceanside always have some fun events happening in the evenings with good vibes. The ecology center also has some cool things throughout the summer that are not to miss!
I had the pleasure of learning how to surf in Santa Cruz, California. I moved out west in search of a happier life and bigger opportunities from the opposite coast, where I spent my time making art and chasing other board sports. Growing up by the ocean, I've always loved the surf culture and the energy it embodies.
Not long after moving to Santa Cruz, I began teaching surf lessons with Surf School Santa Cruz and fell in love with sharing the sport that gave me so much. Rather than just pushing clients into some of their first waves, I enjoy giving each surfer an authentic learning experience that way, they can take what they've learned in the water and apply it the next time around!
Once I moved down to SoCal I began teaching lessons on the side to help those who just wanted to get out there but didn't have the means, as well as volunteering with a local nonprofit called Un Mar De Colores. I'm passionate about sharing the stoke and the importance of saltwater therapy. Hope to see you all out there!
