Surf for All Ages

A wise friend once said, “Surfing is more than just something you do. It fuels your soul and being.” That friend is none other than Selema Masekela, a 52 year old who very much embodies the benefits of staying fit and surfing and snowboarding as much as possible. Let’s be real, our passion (surfing) isn't like pickleball–it is far more all consuming once you get hooked. But you don’t need to be a pro, or surf all the time, to be in love with the waves.

Regardless of where you are in your surfing journey, it’s important to remember that it’s ok to ask for help. If that means help with choosing the right board for surfing as an elder then it’s better to ask another elder, one with lots of experience, rather than an 18 yr old working at the surf shop.

If that means help with knowing where to paddle out and position, then check in with the lifeguards or locals. If that means help planning a trip and getting linked up with an expert local guide, then we’ve got your back. Whether you want to go solo, or with your friends and family, on one of our epic surf adventures OR if you want to make some new friends and up your skills with our Surfer Development Program (SDP).

Bruce Baillio, a 70 yr old surfer from San Antonio, TX, just joined our SDP in Cabo and had an absolute blast. Here’s some of what he had to say…“Well, I kinda cheated because I wasn’t a “beginner” but that’s what I felt like. I grew up in Victoria, TX, which is about an hour away from the Gulf Coast. I learned to surf when I was 14 and I would drive to the coast and surf every weekend possible until I was about 18. There were a few trips over the years too, to California, Mexico, and a few other spots.”

“Over the years life just started to happen and take precedent over surf trips. I even went on some trips that we totally missed opportunities because we didn’t really know where and when to go to surf. That’s what I loved about SDP, Glen and Chucho were absolutely on it with their guidance for our group.”

Bruce said that after leaving Carlsbad, CA, and moving inland, his time in the water was few and far in between. “California was starting to feel really cold and I wasn’t surfing all that much and then I moved inland about 10 years ago. Since then I really hadn’t been surfing much so this was the best possible scenario for me, honestly, to have their knowledge and expertise was a game changer.”

Chillin' in the shade as SDP lead, Glen, goes over somethings from the session.

Bruce’s story is common in that there are many folks out there who started surfing when they were younger, or had more free time, or when they lived closer to the coast. Then life happens and time spent in the water takes a hit. When (and if) you do get the chance to go on a surf trip, there’s no guarantee that you’ll score or progress, especially if you’re going at it on your own.

That’s where we come in, whether it’s getting started (or getting a refresher, like Bruce) via our SDP program, or getting you and your crew out there with confidence and local expertise via one of our surf adventures. The fact is that you just can’t beat the advantage of having local guidance to make the most of your precious time.
