Operation exploration appreciation: go cruising in around some of El Tunco and El Zonte's many sea caves. Perfect for pictures, picnics, and active meditation. Om baby Om!
La Paz

La Paz

Pupusería Jeisi

Pupusería Jeisi

Eat like the locals at El Zonte's most popular spot, Pupusería Jeisi. This decade's old, family-run, mom and pop shop is about as authentic as you can get. If you're nice, they'll invite you into the kitchen to make your own.

Waterfront Skatepark

Can't get enough of standing sideways? Good, us neither. Aprés surf cruise on over to the park at Puro Surf to hang with local rippers and meet other visitors from around the world.
El Cocal

El Cocal

El Cocal has got some killer lefts that can pack a punch, especially when it's pumping. On solid days, the waves are fast and hollow, but shoulder season still offers a decent ride without all the heads.
Tamanique Waterfalls

Talk story, surf, and skate with the ladies of Hijas del Mar. Suri's passion project empowers young girls from the local community providing them with surf/skate gear and sisterhood.
Suri was key! She took me to the best breaks of the day so I could score and caught the waves of my life. Plus having another badass female surfer in the water to help inspire and cheer me on made all the difference. El Salvador is now one of my favorite countries to go escape to for a surf trip.

FAQs

How well do I need to surf?
This adventure is designed for experienced beginners and intermediate surfers (you are able to catch waves consistently on your own.) The average swell height in La Libertad at this time of year is 3-6 feet.
How long will we surf each day?
You'll have 2-3 surf sessions on full days and one session on arrival/departure days. Most sessions are 1 - 2 hours depending on how much energy you have. On the rest day midway through, there's an option to surf an evening session if time allows after a day of exploring.
How many surfers will be in the group?
We'll have a maximum of 4 and a minimum of 2. Come solo or bring friends!
Why La Libertad?
La Libertad is known for its righthand points like Punta Roca, El Sunzal, and El Zonte. You can also find more wave variety at spots like La Bocana, K59, Conchalio and Mizata if you're willing to venture a little further out. Its consistently warm waters are perfectly positioned for S swell, plus going in Nov and early Dec will land you at the end of the wet season and just before tourist season.
What airport do I fly into?
We'll pick you up and drop you off at El Salvador Airport (SAL), which is a 90 minute drive from the hotel. Airport pick ups will be at 3:30 pm, so plan to have your flight land at least an hour prior to pick up times. Airport drop off will be by 12:30 pm, so you'll want your flight to leave after 2 pm. If you need to book flights arrival/departures that are outside of group pick up times we can arrange private taxis but additional fees will apply.
I'm a solo traveler, is it safe?
This is a great destination to go with a local guide for the best (and safest) experience. In general, safety in La Libertad, as in many tourist destinations, can depend on where you are and being a smart traveler. Popular tourist areas like El Tunco are generally safe, especially in places frequented by surfers and travelers. Suri's local knowledge and recommendations will ensure this for travelers.
What equipment do I need to bring?
Foamies and longboards are included, or bring your own board or rent one for $25/day through local surf shops. Sun protection, sun hats, and rash guards are recommended. You won't need a wetsuit, the waters are warm this time of year.
What's not included?
Flights and meals are not included. Expect to spend about $15 or less for breakfast and lunch. A hearty dinner runs about $20 and you have tons of options near your hotel. There are restaurant options available for vegans, vegetarians and other dietary restrictions.
Can I book a private session?
Absolutely. Contact us if you're interested in private groups, different dates, or different accommodations.
OK, how much?
The trip costs $1,500 per person based on double occupancy. If you are traveling solo (or with a companion but want separate rooms), there is a $350 additional fee. You can cancel anytime 60 days prior to the trip's start date for a full refund including your deposit.
What are the 2024 trip dates?
Trips are scheduled for Nov 1 - 7 and Dec 2 - 8. Contact us if you're interested in going but would like different dates.
What can I expect for weather and conditions?
Average swell height will be 3-6 feet. Water temp will be around 85°F with air temp between 77°F and 88°F daily. Nov/Dec marks the transition from wet to dry season, so you can expect some coastal showers.
