Traverse through the dense jungle for a rewarding dip in fresh water pools. The Dominican Republic is home to a number of incredible waterfalls — El Limón, 27 Charcos de Damajagua, Salto de Jimenoa, Aguas Blancas, and Salto de Socoa... to name a few.

Mañanero

The DR is home to historic fortresses like the Fort of San Felipe, built to ward off pirates in the 16th century. Explore this well-preserved 16th-century fortress overlooking Puerto Plata’s bay, with cannons, stone walls, and panoramic ocean views—a mix of history and stunning scenery.

Stay a short walk to Playa Encuentro

El Encuentro Surf Lodge is located in the Dominican Republic's north coast between Cabarete and Sosúa, walking distance from five popular breaks: Coco Pipe, Bobo's Point, La Derecha, La Izquierda and Destroyer. When you're not surfing take a dip in their salt water pool, complete with poolside service so you never have to leave your sun chair, or grab something to eat in their open air restaurant. Feel good about staying in a boutique hotel whose philosophy is rooted in minimizing negative environmental impact and maximizing guests comfort.

FAQs

How well do I need to surf?
This adventure is designed for experienced beginners. Experienced beginners will have taken lessons before, but aren't expected to be able to catch their own waves perfectly every time.
How long will we surf each day?
You'll have 2-3 surf sessions on full days and one session on arrival/departure days. Most sessions are 1 - 2 hours depending on how much energy you have.
How many surfers will be in the group?
We'll have a maximum of 4 and a minimum of 2. Come solo or bring friends!
Why Dominican Republic?

What airport do I fly into?
We'll pick you up and drop you off at Puerto Plata Airport (POP), which is a 25 minute drive from the hotel. For an additional fee, transfers can be arranged from other airports within the DR (Santiago is 2 hr drive, Santo Domingo is 4 hrs). Airport pick ups will be at 3:45 pm, so plan to have your flight land at least an hour prior to pick up times. Airport drop off will be by 12 pm, so you'll want your flight to leave after 1 pm.
I'm a solo traveler, is it safe?
Yes, Cabarete is a very safe area. The people are amazing and you're perfectly safe walking around at night visiting the different cafés, bars and restaurants.
What equipment do I need to bring?
Foamies and longboards are included, or bring your own board or rent one for $25/day through local surf shops. Sun protection, sun hats, and rash guards are recommended. You won't need a wetsuit, the waters are warm this time of year.
What's not included?
Flights and meals are not included. Allan will take you to incredible local restaurants, but you'll need to cover costs. Expect to spend about $10 or less for breakfast/lunch and $20 for a nice dinner.
Can I book a private session?
Absolutely. Contact us if you're interested in private groups, different dates, or different accommodations.
OK, how much?
The trip costs $1,595 per person based on double occupancy. If you are traveling solo (or with a companion but want separate rooms), there is a $295 additional fee. You can cancel anytime 60 days prior to the trip's start date for a full refund including your deposit.
What are the trip dates?

What can I expect for weather and conditions?
Average swell height will be 2-5 feet. Water temp and air temp will be around 82°F.
