Stay in the heart of Santa Teresa

You’ll be staying at Don Jon’s Surf and Yoga Lodge, situated in the heart of Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. Your room is just a short walk away from endless waves, pristine white sandy beaches, and breathtaking sunsets. At the lodge, you’ll find plenty of hammocks to unwind in between your surf sessions, and you’ll be conveniently located next to some of the tastiest and trendiest restaurants and bars in town.

How well do I need to surf?

This guided trip is designed for intermediate surfers who are comfortable surfing independently, as it’s not instructional. The average swell height at this time of year is 3-5 feet. If you’re looking for lessons, check out our Surfer Development Programs for a more structured learning experience.

How long will we surf each day?

During this trip, you’ll enjoy a total of eight surf sessions. On full days, you’ll have two sessions, while on half days you’ll have one session. Half days will vary depending on flights and conditions on arrival/departure days. Each surf session lasts between one to two hours, depending on your energy levels. On half days with only one session, you can look forward to adventuring with Tavo or relaxing in a hammock to recharge.

How many surfers will be in the group?

We’ll have a maximum of 4 and a minimum of 2. Come solo or bring friends!

What airport do I fly into?

We’ll pick you up and drop you off at Cobano Airport (ACO), which is a 30 minute drive from the hotel. We recommend flying into Liberia or San Jose and then booking a domestic flight with Sansa airlines to Cobano. Airport pick ups will be at 4 pm, so plan to have your flight land at least half an hour prior to pick up time. Airport drop off will be by 10 am, so you’ll want your flight to leave after 11 am. If you can’t make the group pick up times let us know and we’ll schedule a private taxi for you for an additional fee.

I’m a solo traveler, is it safe?

Yes, Santa Teresa is a very safe city. The people are amazing and you’re perfectly safe walking around at night visiting the different cafés, bars and restaurants.

What equipment do I need to bring?

Foamies and longboards are included, or bring your own board or rent one for $25/day through local surf shops. Sun protection, sun hats, and rash guards are recommended. You won’t need a wetsuit, the waters are warm this time of year. Leave your camera at home, a professional photographer will be in tow to document the entire trip.

What’s not included?

Flights and meals are not included. Expect to spend about $15 or less for breakfast and lunch. A hearty dinner runs about $20 and you have tons of options near your hotel. There are restaurant options available for vegans, vegetarians and other dietary restrictions.

Can I book a private session?

Absolutely. Contact us if you’re interested in private groups, different dates, or different accommodations.

OK, how much?

The trip costs $1,850 per person based on double occupancy. If you are traveling solo (or with a companion but want separate rooms), there is a $400 additional fee. You can cancel anytime 60 days prior to the trip’s start date for a full refund including your deposit.

What are the 2025 trip dates?

Trips are scheduled for Jan 23 – 28 and Feb 25 – Mar 2. Contact us if you’re interested in going but would like different dates.

What can I expect for weather and conditions?

Average swell height will be 3-5 feet. Water temp will be around 85°F with air temp also about 85°F daily.
